Warhammer 40000 Codex

Infinity Circuit

Where the dead do not fade, but live forever in a crystal song of memory.

The Infinity Circuit acts as the living memory and spiritual heart of Craftworld Aeldari, an immense psychic lattice preserving the consciousness of every deceased Eldar from their civilization’s ancient dawn to the present day. Sparing them from the certain doom of consumption by Slaanesh, an Eldar who prepares their spirit stone transfers their essence into this collective network, securing an eternity within the Webway itself. Serving as both a sacred graveyard and a living library, the Circuit permits the living to commune with forebears, accessing millennia of accumulated knowledge, tactical genius, and cultural memory. As the final bulwark against extinction, it ensures that while flesh perishes, the collective soul of the Eldar endures within the shimmering, crystalline core of their worldships.

Lore & Background

In the grim darkness of the far future, death for an Aeldari is rarely final. Following the catastrophic Fall that birthed Slaanesh, the Eldar learned that their souls were too potent to simply dissipate; they would be instantly devoured by the Dark God unless protected. To counter this, the Farseers and Spiritseers developed the Infinity Circuit, a complex psychic architecture woven into the very fabric of their worldships using soul-gems known as spirit stones.

When an Eldar dies, their body is cremated in ritual fires while their spirit stone is shattered and its essence fed into the Circuit. There, they join the chorus of ancestors, retaining their individuality yet becoming part of a greater whole. This collective consciousness serves as a strategic asset; Farseers can consult with ancient warlords to predict future paths, and Spiritseers can summon the spectral avatars of these ancestors to fight alongside the living in times of dire need.

In Their Own Story

The air inside the Hall of Ancestors hummed with a low, resonant vibration that tasted of ozone and old stars. Kaelen, a young Guardian, knelt before the great crystalline lattice, his mind reaching out through the psychic web. He did not hear voices in the traditional sense; instead, he felt a sudden rush of cold steel and the scent of burning promethium as the memory of a warrior who had died ten thousand years ago flooded his senses.

"The path is clear," Kaelen whispered, his eyes reflecting the shifting colors of the Circuit. "My grandfather... no, my ancestor from the age of the great wars... he says the Tyranids come from the void-shard." The lattice flared with a brilliant azure light as thousands of souls shifted in unison, their collective will reinforcing the living defender's resolve against the encroaching darkness.

Reader's Guide

The Infinity Circuit serves as the metaphysical backbone of Craftworld society, functioning primarily as a soul-safety mechanism and a resource for psychic augmentation. When an Aeldari warrior falls in battle, their spirit is captured within a carved gemstone before death occurs. Upon the body's cremation, this stone is shattered, its fracturing releasing the trapped consciousness into the Circuit’s boundless web where it joins the chorus of ancestors.
